The specs called for a modern, contemporary, “film school” look. An inspiration piece was sent from which I adapted what I call a “graphical” look. The poster is designed to be modular and features a layout that can quickly and easily be changed for future events, even for entirely different organizations and campaigns if necessary. The goal was to have a standard template that gave a “signature” look that was re-usable.

Concept and execution by GreaseMonkey Media. Completely designed in Adobe Photoshop CS4. Commissioned by Windsock Films.

In 2002, I was bestowed the great honor of designing the artwork to accompany a soundtrack album by Japanese singing superstar Mari Iijima.

The soundtrack is an accompaniment to the 2001 remaster of the 1922 silent film classic “Lorna Doone.” Ms. Iijima ws commissioned by the film’s restorer, Jesse Pierce, to compose and record this completely new orchestral score for the film.

My approach to the design was to play off of the aged film look, creating a sepia-tone color palette and using dust, scratches, and other elements to mimic film damage.

The inside of the booklet features an impression of the original 1922 film poster.

The photo of Ms. Iijima was provided by her and is by Ken Hagler.

Ms. Iijima was kind enough to sign this soft-proof of the cover artwork for me.

This design has actually evolved over the course of about three years. Originally this was just a mock-up of the front and spine to be included with a PDF version of the book. As the book has now gone into actual print form from Windsock Press, I have just completed re-laying the design complete with back cover for publishing.

The book was written by my close longtime friend and collaborator Craig Forrest of Windsock Films. When I was approached about designing the cover, I chose to go with the look of a military manual. The cameraman and globe graphics were gleaned from the internet and modified and laid out by me. The text styles were also chosen and laid out by me. The photo of the author, Windsock Press logo, and wording were all provided by Craig Forrest. Original design and final layout for press are all by me.

Also presented here are the original mock-up versions of the cover, including the upcoming Spanish version, as included in the original PDF version of the book.
